Burns Night Supper 2008

Around 80 members and friends of varying nationalities gathered together at the Hotel L'Amandier in Morlaas on Friday, 25th January to celebrate the birthday of Scotland's most famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns.

Guests were greeted  on arrival by a kilted piper and an aperitif.  A delicious, if somewhat international interpretation of the traditional Burn's Supper followed, comprising Cockaleekie soup, Egg Benedict, Haggis, Neeps & Tatties (or salmon for those with a faint heart - or stomach!) Cheese and salad and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

The bagpipes heralded the arrival of the haggis which was proudly carried in through the restaurant by the chef after which a talented Scottish actor gave the famous address to the haggis.  A tot of whisky was raised in its honour before it was devoured.

Steve Starkey-Jones gave a witty address to the lassies and Susie Will retaliated with an apt reply!  The evening continued until the "wee sma' hours" with the more energetic amongst us taking part in some enthusiastic Scottish dancing.
Our thanks to all whose hard work made it such a memorable evening!
